2009 CGI Annual Meeting to Feature Special Session on Northern IrelandSeptember 18, 2009
New York, N.Y. - Northern Ireland's First Minister and deputy First Minister will participate in special session on Northern Ireland during the fifth annual Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) meeting.
The special session will be moderated by President Clinton, and panelists will include Peter Robinson, First Minister, Northern Ireland Executive; and Martin McGuinness, deputy First Minister, Northern Ireland Executive; Declan Kelly, Economic Envoy to Northern Ireland; U.S. Department of State; Shaun Woodward, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland; and Micheál Martin, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Republic of Ireland.
"I am honored that some of the key figures who exercised political leadership to secure devolved government in Northern Ireland will join me at the Annual Meeting next week," President Clinton said. "I am looking forward to a stimulating and frank discussion about the region."
Panelists will discuss the factors that can make Northern Ireland even more appealing for foreign investors, how local businesses can reach their markets in the U.S., and how the talents of young people in the region can be utilized through entrepreneurship. Discussions will also focus on how Northern Ireland's successes can be an inspiration to other post-conflict economies throughout the world.
The session will take place Wednesday, September 23, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., in the New York West Room at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers.
The Annual Meeting convenes world leaders from government, private enterprise, and the civil sector to develop and implement solutions to major challenges around the world.
